African(a) Philosophy In Contemporary
Africa And The World
Introduction
Philosophy, which is a quest for wisdom, does not teach on specific skill, it teaches one how to learn’’. Whether in a classroom or outside, it engages one in thinking continually, listening and speaking to others, understanding different ideas, seeing multiple sides of any issue and how to decipher together instructions and procedures that seem over-whelming at first. It helps one to flourish in every career and figure out what they want in the first place with respect to a career. We have to note here that we can do all these things in different languages. Greece has just contributed a label of the activity that we call philosophy. The thing itself cannot be said to have originated from Greece as some philosophers might want us to believe (Bewaji, 2004:29, 30ff).
African Philosophy is the philosophy done by African philosophers whether it be in the area of logic, ethics or history of philosophy. For example, when a Botswana says say, motho ga a itsiwe e se naga (unlike land, country, forest, a human person is unknowable), they are talking ethics, metaphysics and epistemology. African Philosophy is based on cultural heritage, but it involves the present and future as well as individual thoughts.
The objective of the Conference on African(a) Philosophy is to establish an academic generational ecosystem for teaching, studying, learning and producing network of scholars, thinkers and practitioner’s indispensable for the continuity and sustainability of African(a) Philosophy in Africa and within the global space.
